As many as 69 individuals have been killed, 62 injured and 6,968 buildings damaged due to heavy and extensive rainfall all over the country. Rain will continue in most parts of the country till September 11.

 

25 soldiers killed from blast in Turkey

Twenty-five soldiers were killed and four were lightly wounded in an explosion at a military ammunition storage in western Turkey, the army announced on Thursday.

The explosion occurred around 1815 GMT late on Wednesday at a military ammunition depot where hand grenades were stored and its cause was not yet known, said the chief of staff in a statement posted on its website.

Gas explosion in coal mine in China kills 19, traps dozens

BEIJING: A gas explosion at a coal mine in southwest China has killed 19 miners and trapped dozens more, state media reported Thursday.

The Xiaojiawan coal mine in Sichuan province’s coal-rich Panzhihua city exploded Wednesday evening with 152 miners inside, Central China Television said.

 

Hurricane death toll rises to 16: Haiti

The death toll from tropical storm Isaac rose to 24 in Haiti with three people still missing, the Haitian Civil Protection Agency said Tuesday.

Isaac battered Haiti last weekend with torrential rains and strong winds, where they were strongest in the department of Ouest (west) where 10 people have died, according to Haitian authorities.

 

Earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hits Salvador

A strong 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of El Salvador on Sunday night, but no casualties were reported and fears of a tsunami soon dissipated.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center cancelled a warning for all of Central America and Mexico early on Monday morning after reporting that a small tsunami wave of roughly 4 inches above normal sea level had been generated.
